UC Women Get First Win in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. - After dropping the first two matches of the spring break trip, the UC Women's Tennis team got in the win column defeating Winona State 5-4 Tuesday evening from the University of Tampa.

Charleston took a tough loss Monday against #3 regionally ranked Wayne State University who carried a 20-4 match record on the season.  Kelsey Hensley won from her No. 2 spot for UC's lone match win in an 8-1 loss.

On Tuesday Charleston fell behind the Winona State Warriors after doubles play, with only Mallika Mali and Madeline Caropino picking up a win from the No. 3 Doubles position, 8-6.

Trailing in the match 1-2, UC needed to take four of the six singles matches to earn a team victory and that is exactly what happened.  Ana Pena, Kelsey Hensley, and Taylor Todd all earned straight set victories from the No. 1, 2 & 4 singles positions.  Senior Mallika Mali won her second match of the day battling back from a set down to win in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1, and secure the 5-4 victory for the Golden Eagles.
