CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Charleston Women's Tennis team outfought a tough Edinboro University squad yesterday for a 5-4 match victory at the Charleston Tennis Club.
With the win UC improves to 12-8 on the 2013-14 season and 4-4 this spring.
Celebrating senior day, Mallika Mali was dominant in both her doubles and singles performances to pace the Golden Eagles. Mali paired up with Maddie Caropino to get Charleston a win from their No. 3 doubles position and an 1-0 match lead. Taylor Todd and Marieve Edwards scratched out an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 double spot that gave UC a 2-1 match advantage after doubles.
Todd was first off the court in singles, serving up a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 singles positions followed by Mali who cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory from the No. 6 spot. Leading 4-1, Charleston needed to win just one more court to secure the match and Edwards provided that win on the No. 3 singles court, winning her match 6-3, 6-3.
Edinboro took advantage of a couple of injuries to close the match out, but ultimately the Golden Eagles came away with the 5-4 victory.
UC gets back on the courts this morning at 10am to play another PSAC opponent, Indiana University of Pa.
