Solid Start in MEC Play for Women's Soccer, 2-0 Win Over Rams

Thompson Scores Her First Goal as a Golden Eagle
Box Score Shepherdstown, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles women's soccer team started their MEC schedule Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Shepherd University.

Charleston (2-1-1, 1-0 MEC) captured a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a very composed finish by freshman forward Lyndsey Thompson (Shady Spring, WV) on an assist by senior midfielder Holly Bigg (Limehouse, Ontario).  The goal was Thompson's first as a Golden Eagle.  The score remained 1-0 after the first 45 minutes with Charleston on top of the Rams. 

UC continued to high press Shepherd (2-2-1, 0-1 MEC) creating multiple chances on the offensive attack in the second half.  Bigg eventually broke through for the second goal of the game for the Golden Eagles in the 58th minute on a feed from junior defender Lindsey Henderson (Blacksburg, VA).

The 2-0 score would be be the final as Charleston won their second match in a row.  Freshman keeper Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario) posted four saves in net for the Golden Eagles.

UC debuts at home this Wednesday at Trace Fork Field to take on Notre Dame College at 4:00pm.
