CHARLESTON, W.Va. - West Virginia State and Charleston, cross-town rivals and the top seeds in the MEC Women's Tennis Tournament, will play for the championship on Sunday after each team picked up 5-0 wins in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 5-0, and Charleston defeated West Liberty by the same score. The two teams will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts for the championship. WVSU won the regular season meeting, 6-3, back on Oct. 6.
UC won all three doubles points as well, including at No. 2 where Jackie Bakos and Elise Edwards won in a tiebreaker. Bakos also won her match at No. 6 singles and Silvana Slusarciuc won at No. 5 to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.
