Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UC eliminated from the NCAA tournament on PKs

Erie, PA - The 1st round game of the 2015 Women's Soccer NCAA tournament would have a stoppage in the first 15 minutes with the corner of the football goal post blown directly into play under the east end goal, two 30 minute lightning delays, a 60 minute lightning delay, rain, sleet, sun, snow and a consistent 35mph wind throughout the game. In the end, the game would take 4 ½ hours to complete.

The Scots of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania elected to take the wind advantage after winning the coin toss during pre-game. The Golden Eagles sat in and weathered the storm, literally. The Scots held an 18/3 advantage in shots. However, they did not concede a goal thanks to the remarkable play of University of Charleston goalkeeper Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario). The tables would turn in the second half as the Golden Eagles would outshoot the Scots 9/4 and control much of the possession.

In the first overtime, Edinboro won the coin toss again and elected to take the wind advantage. The Scots outshot UC 3/1 and UC outshot the Scots 2/0 in the final overtime. Penalty kicks would be the deciding factor as Edinboro would advance to the second round of the tournament after winning with a 3-1 advantage.

This marked the end of the season for the Golden Eagles. UC finished with an 11-5-6 overall record and participated in the program's first NCAA tournament.

Coach Diuguid is sad to see the season end, but he is proud of his team for what they have achieved. "That's all you can ask for - effort and working together to achieve a common goal. And that's been our purpose all year."

Charleston graduates eight seniors this year, but the rest of their 25 player roster is filled with potential for another tournament appearance next competitive season.
