CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Softball team was back in action as they hosted the University of Virginia at Wise in a Mountain East Conference double-header Thursday afternoon.  The Golden Eagles completed the sweep by the scores of 9-0 and 2-0.
Courtney Fain and
Jessie Rowe each pitched complete game shutouts with Fain only allowing one hit a lead-off single to start the game. Rowe scattered five hits in her seven innings of work.Â
At the plate for Charleston,
Kelly Browning and
Cortney Norris each hit multiple-run homeruns in the first game as Norris's three-run shot evoked the eight run after five innings run rule. Â
Ayla Santos was 3-for-5 on the day with an RBI and double.Â
But the clutch hit of the day came from
Jenna Evans. In the bottom of the sixth inning knotted at zeros in the second game with two-outs, base runners on first and second, Evans drove a pitch to left-center field that cleared the bases and left her standing on third with a triple. Charleston took a 2-0 lead as
Andrea Hayes and
Alyssa Stanley scored.Â
Charleston is now 28-7 on the season and 13-5 in MEC play. The Golden Eagles travel to Urbana University tomorrow for a MEC double-header with first pitch slated for 2pm. Â
