Charleston Softball Sweeps W.Va. State 2-0 and 3-2

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Alayna Carlson's two-out double to right-center in the top of the sixth inning scored Andrea Hayes and Bethany Williams as the University of Charleston women's softball team came from behind to defeat West Virginia State University 3-2 in the second half of the double-header. Williams had doubled to left-center scoring Cortney Norris who reached on an error to start the inning.

Charleston claimed game one by the score of 2-0 behind a complete game shutout from Courtney Fain who surrendered six hits, walking only one, and striking out three.  Fain moved to 16-5 on the season as UC is now 33-8 on the season, 18-6 in Mountain East Conference play. 

For UC in game one, an early run in the first off a passed ball allowed Rachelle Toppings to score and in the sixth Hayes singled home Jenna Evans to take the 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Jessie Rowe battled for the win in game two behind a complete game performance surrendering just two runs on 10 hits.  Rowe forced WVSU to ground out 16 times in seven frames picking up her 10th win of the season. 

UC is back in action Saturday against the University of Virginia at Wise with first pitch slated for 2pm.
