INSTITUTE, W.Va. - University of Charleston women's tennis couldn't capitalize on a lead after taking two of three doubles courts heading into singles as the Golden Eagles dropped five of six singles matches in a 3-6 loss to the Yellow Jackets.

UC got doubles wins from the tandems of Gegeshidze/Edwards and Dillon/Youell at number two and three doubles to carry a one-court lead into singles.  Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles the momentum quickly subsided as W.Va. State rallied for wins on five singles courts to claim the victory and be in the driver seat for the MEC regular season title.  

Sophomore Elise Edwards was the only Golden Eagle to earn a singles victory, defeating Marta Yevstakhevyeh in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

Charleston returns to the court Friday afternoon to host John Carroll University at 3pm at Schoenbaum Courts in Kanawha City.  The match will be live streamed, a first in Golden Eagle tennis history.  Watch live HERE
