Buckhannon, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles traveled to Buckhannon to play the WV Wesleyan Bobcats on Sunday afternoon. The game would match up the top two teams in the Mountain East and the Golden Eagles would walk away the victor on the day 1-0.
Â
The defeat snapped the Bobcats' 32 game regular season unbeaten streak. The Bobcats'Â last loss in the regular season came on October 21, 2014 against the Shepherd Rams.
Sunday's game was limited in offensive opportunities by both sides with Wesleyan holding a narrow advantage in shots 7/5. The game's lone goal came in the second half at the 52:42 mark when freshman
Brooke Garey (Macadonia, OH) slipped the ball between two Wesleyan defenders outside of the 18 to fellow teammate, junior
Adele Siegel (Kolsaas, Norway). Siegel took the ball in stride and converted the game winner past the Bobcats' keeper, Chelsea Hubner. Hubner recorded two saves on the day and UC's junior keeper,
Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario), would pick up four saves and her eighth clean sheet of the year.
Â
The Golden Eagles move to 9-1-2 overall and 9-01 in the MEC. The Bobcats' first loss dropped them to 8-1-3 overall and 7-1-3 in the MEC. UC returns to action with two away games this week as they travel to Urbana and West Liberty.
