Charleston Men's Soccer Back in Sweet 16

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- For the third consecutive season the University of Charleston men's soccer team is back in the NCAA Men's Soccer Division II Championship Sweet 16 following a 2-0 victory over West Chester Saturday evening at Schoenbaum Stadium.

UC got a pair of goals after a scoreless first half to defeat the visting Golden Rams in their 2016 NCAA Tournament opener.  Will Roberts opened the scoring with his 21st goal of the season, scoring on a PK following a take down of Jermaine Windster in the box just after halftime in the 49th minute.  The game remained 1-0 until the 87th minute when Patrick Guier put the nail in the West Chester coffin with an easy put away just outside the six on an assist by Felipe Antonio.

The Golden Eagles dominated possession and outshot the Rams 17/4 on the evening, forcing Charleston goalkeeper Paulo Pita to make just one save.

UC awaits the winner of tomorrow's second round match between Urbana and Mercyhurst.  The winner will play University of Charleston for the Atlantic Region title sometime next week in Brookville, N.Y., hosted by LIU Post.  More information will follow when available.
