Kutztown, Pa. – The University of Charleston Women's Soccer team ended its season in Kutztown Sunday afternoon. Kutztown University hosted the game as the Atlantic Region's highest seed, and the Golden Bears would ultimately win the match 1-0, securing a spot in the Sweet Sixteen vs. West Chester University.
The Golden Eagles battled high winds in the first half of the game, only firing one shot at Kutztown keeper Imani Taylor. The score remained tied at 0-0 until the last five seconds of the half, when Kutztown's Cara Griffith headed the ball into the net.
The second half yielded more chances for UC, but the Golden Bears would hold the Golden Eagles at 1-0 for the remainder of the game. Charleston goalkeeper
Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario) had a standout performance, coming up big with seven saves.
The Golden Eagles conclude the 2016 season with a record of 15-4-3. This is a historic year for Coach Todd Diuguid and the team, as it marks their highest ever post season finish in program history.
Coach Diuguid is proud of the team's success, and looks forward to next year.
