UC Defeats Wesleyan in Semifinal OT

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Women's Soccer team hosted West Virginia Wesleyan College in a Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinal match Wednesday evening. The second-seed Golden Eagles battled the third-seed Bobcats in a deadlocked game that stayed scoreless through the first 90 minutes.

The University of Charleston drove the ball towards Wesleyan's goal right off the kickoff in the first overtime period, winning a corner kick in the 91st minute. Junior midfielder Ivey Nucilli (Fairmont, WV) whipped a low corner kick into the box, which was hit off the crossbar and into the net by sophomore MEC Defender of the Year Marlee Coleman (Manchester, Conn.), securing the win for the Golden Eagles. This would be Coleman's first recorded goal of the season.

UC outshot the Bobcats 11-4 on the day. Charleston goalkeeper Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario) recorded two saves and Wesleyan goalkeeper Chelsea Hubner made four saves.

Wednesday's win propels the Golden Eagles to the MEC Tournament championship Sunday the 6th against the first-seed Notre Dame Falcons. The Falcons beat fourth-seed West Liberty in their semifinal game Wednesday and will host the Golden Eagles in South Euclid, Ohio on Sunday as the highest seed.
