FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Charleston earned their second win on their two-game road trip defeating Fairmont State University 65-55 Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.Â
Â
Chyress Lockhart poured in 24 points on 7-for-11 shooting and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Kiara Johnson posted another double-double for the Golden Eagles, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the 10-point UC win. Charleston took care of the ball better than they typically do, only turning the ball over 12 times for a team that averages over 17 a game.
Â
UC carried a two-point lead, 29-27, into halftime but found themselves trailing by four entering the fourth period. Charleston erupted for 24 fourth quarter points and a 12-0 run in the middle of the quarter put the Golden Eagles in the driver seat with 2:17 to play leading by 13, 60-47. The Falcons wouldn't get any closer than seven as Charleston cruised the 10-point win after the final buzzer sounded.
Â
The Golden Eagles return home for the final two games of the regular season, hosting Concord Thursday evening and concluding the schedule against their Kanawha Valley rival West Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. Both games will be played at the Charleston Civic Center.
