CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston women's basketball won their fourth consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating the Yellow Jackets from West Virginia State University by a score of 60-55 at the Charleston Civic Center to close out the 2015-16 regular season.

Chyress Lockhart paced the Golden Eagles with her first career double-double scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go with three assists. KJ Johnson dominated the paint for UC, snatching 14 boards and chipping in 14 points for her seventh double-double of the season.Â

UC defense was suffocating, limiting the Yellow Jackets to 28% shooting from the floor on the afternoon, including a meager 18% in the first half. Despite the stellar defense, Charleston couldn't pull away from the pesky Jackets as the Golden Eagles held just a three-point lead at the half, 25-22.

WVSU's Trina Current knotted the game at 35-35 with two minutes left in the third but a pair of Johnson jumpers put Charleston ahead by four, 39-35, heading to the final 10 minutes. UC built a nine-point lead late in the fourth quarter but a foul by Marissa Koob, then a technical foul gave the Jackets life trailing by just five, 58-53, after knocking down four straight free throws with 1:11 left to play. WVSU made it a one possession game with 28 seconds remaining but a pair of Lockhart foul shots sealed the game for the Golden Eagles, 60-55.

Charleston (12-16, 10-12) finished the MEC regular season in seventh place, earning the right to host an MEC First Round game Tuesday, March 1
st against 10
th place Shepherd University. The game will tip-off at 5:30 at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.
