WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The University of Charleston softball team ran its winning streak to six games Tuesday, with a double-header sweep of West Liberty University, by the scores of 6-5 and 12-0. Charleston now is 17-4 on the season and 6-0 in Mountain East Conference play.
On the day, UC tallied 26 hits and scored 18 runs against the Hilltoppers pitching staff. Leading the way for UC was
Laura Ashlock whose 5-for-8 day at the plate included two homeruns and a triple, while driving eight runs in. Next in line for UC was
Kelly Browning adding a 4-for-8 day with three doubles and two runs batted in.
Rachelle Toppings set the table in the leadoff spot getting on base four times in front of Ashlock and Browning.
Katelyn Hamilton and
Bethany Williams tallied seven hits between them, while scoring three times, and driving three runs.

Jessie Rowe relieved
Alli Burdette with the score tied at 4-4 in the fifth inning of game one. With UC scoring two runs in the top of the seventh Rowe picked up the win for Charleston allowing just one run in two and 1/3 innings of work. Rowe then went on to pitch a complete game shut-out in game two scattering five hits over seven innings. It was win number seven and eight for Rowe. Burdette allowed four runs on four hits in four and 2/3 innings of work.
Charleston is back in action Friday, when they travel to Concord University with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
