UC's Record-Breaking Season Ends in Denver

DENVER – UC Softball's record-breaking season came to close late Wednesday evening at the Regency Athletic Complex in the NCAA DII Women's College World Series, dropping an elimination game to Southern Arkansas, 7-0.

Charleston won a program and school best 50 games on their way to the NCAA DII National Championship Festival before being eliminated with their second loss in the double-elimination bracket, finishing the year with a 50-12 record.

The Muleriders chased Golden Eagle starter Jessie Rowe out the game in the first inning, only able to get one out before making way for Alli Burdette.  Burdette would go on to pitch the final 6 2/3 innings for Charleston in relief, allowing three runs on seven SAU hits.

Katelyn Hamilton and Allison Evans each had a pair of hits for the Golden Eagles to account for four of UC's six total hits.  Alayna Carlson had Charleston's lone extra base hit with a double to start the fifth inning.  Bethany Williams had a 1.000 on-base-percentage for the tournament, reaching base all seven times of her plate appearances with five walks and two hit-by-pitch.

Sixteen Golden Eagles made an appearance in last night's game as Coach Loeser wanted to allow all of his players an opportunity to play in the Women's College World Series.

Charleston's Hamilton, Carlson, A. Evans, Jenna Evans, Kelly Browning and Jade Rolley played their last game for the Maroon & Gold but takes with them a 140-66 overall record, a Mountain East Conference Championship, two NCAA tournament appearances, a NCAA Atlantic Region championship, and a NCAA DII Women's College World Series appearance.
