UC Ends Season with 1-1 Draw with Rams

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Needing a win over Shepherd to secure a spot in the Mountain East Conference postseason tournament, Charleston was forced to settle for a 1-1 tie with the Rams on Saturday afternoon at the Fields at Trace Fork in what would be Charleston's final match of the 2017 season.

TEAM RECORDS – Charleston (6-7-5, 5-6-5 MEC), Shepherd (5-5-7, 5-4-7 MEC)

 How it Happened
UC and Shepherd entered Saturday's match with a MEC Tournament berth on the line.  A Charleston win would put the Golden Eagles in while Shepherd needed just a draw to claim the fourth and final spot.  After a scoreless first half on a rain soaked turf field at Trace Fork, Shepherd claimed a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute on a Bri Gorman goal inside the six following a Taylor Harwood delivery off a free kick.

Charleston looked like their season would end in regulation but a late flurry by the Golden Eagles extended their season for 20 more minutes.  With one second remaining in regulation, Marlee Coleman connected with senior Ivey Nucilli in the middle of the box who picked a great time to score her first goal of the season and keep UC's postseason hopes alive.

The Golden Eagles failed to capture the momentum from regulation and produce a game winner in the 20 minutes overtime, closing out the season with a draw to Shepherd.
