How it Happened
UC and the Bobcats spent most of the first half in the midfield with neither team creating any dangerous chances before the Golden Eagles earned their first corner of the contest in the 36
th minute. Charleston's corner specialist, Kieran Bywater, served a near post ball that found a rising Robin Lapert who headed it past a diving Alessandro Armenia to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes of action. It was the second time in as many games Lapert had scored a header against the Bobcats, the last coming in the MEC Championship Final.
West Virginia Wesleyan looked for the equalizer but could not break through, and then got a bit of a break when UC keeper Paulo Pita left the game with an injury. Ewen Le Gallo came in and played the final 30 minutes and made three saves to preserve the shutout.
