CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Softball team (15-8, 5-1 MEC) shut out the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit (9-9, 1-2 MEC) for a pair of wins in Friday's conference double header.
THE BASICS
GAME 1 – Charleston 3; Wheeling Jesuit 0
GAME 2 – Charleston 7; Wheeling Jesuit 0

GAME ONE
-The Cardinals went scoreless at the top of the first inning. The Golden Eagles got on the board when Monica Carter Singled to right field sending Karli Pinkerton home for the first score of the game.
-During the next two innings neither team could send a runner home. The Cardinals were also unable to score in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the fourth with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Karli Pinkerton sent a single to center field allowing Natalie Beck and Ansley Warner to score for the Golden Eagles. After four innings the UC had the 3-run advantage.
-Three more scoreless innings would give the Golden Eagles the 3-0 victory in game 1.
GAME TWO
-Both teams were off to another slow start, neither of them scoring in the first two innings. During the bottom of the third, Freshman Monica Cater sent sacrificed on a fly ball to center field sending Rachelle Toppings home for the first score of game 2.
-During the next at bat with Carter on first Haleigh Christopher knocked her tenth home run over the season to center field giving UC the 3-0 advantage.
-Senior Laura Ashlock sent another homer to left center bringing the score to 4-0 Charleston.
-After a scoreless fourth inning Monica Carter stole second base putting her in scoring position. Christopher hit a single to left field and Carter turned on the juice to cross home plate and give UC its fifth run of the game. During the next at bat, Laura Ashlock sent her second home run to left field bringing home runs six and seven for the Golden Eagles.
-Charleston took game 2 7-0.
STAT CHECK
-Prior to today's game Freshman, Haleigh Christopher was No. 18 in the country in HR (9) hitting her 10
th in game 2. She also is in the top 5 for slugging percentage with 1.016.
-Charleston has currently gone 33-34 in stolen bases this season.
