CHARLESTON, W.Va. –  The University of Charleston Softball team (34-15, 22-7 MEC) split their series with Fairmont State (18-30,11-19 MEC) on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
GAME 1 –Fairmont State 2; Charleston 1
GAME 2 –Charleston 10; Fairmont State 0

GAME ONE
-The Golden Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning, freshman Karli Pinkerton hit a single to shortstop allowing Rachelle Toppings to score for the Golden Eagles.
-After a scoreless second inning, Jenny Stubbs cracked a home run to left field to tie the game up for the Falcons at 1-1.
-Neither team sent runners home for the next three innings, but in the bottom of the seventh, Whitley Mongan hit a walk-off homerun to give Fairmont State the 2-1 victory.
GAME TWO
-Once again the Golden Eagles struck first when Monica Carter hit a double to left field in the top of the first to allow Toppings to score. During the next at bat Haleigh Christopher hit a single to center field to send Pinkerton home to bring the score to 2-0.
-Laura Ashlock smacked a double to right center field to push Christopher to third and advance Carter for the 3-0 score. Ashlock advanced to third base on a balk allowing Christopher to score (4-0).
-In the top of the second, Carter hit a single to left field sending Toppings home (5-0).
-With Carter on first base, Haleigh Christopher hit her 14
th homer of the season to score two more runs for the Golden Eagles (7-0).
-With the bases loaded in the top of the third, Toppings hit a single advancing all runners, sending Bethany Williams home for the 8-0 lead. Karli Pinkerton then hit a single to center field sending Alyssa Stanley home (9-0).
-With the bases loaded again, Christopher was walked sending Natalie Beck home for the 10-0 lead.
-After a scoreless fourth inning the Golden Eagles took game 2 in five innings to split the series with the Fighting Falcons.
UP NEXT
-Charleston will travel to Shepherd University for a double header set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
