INDiANA, Pa. -- University of Charleston women's tennis made a trip to Pennsylvania this weekend to take schools from the PSAC, starting first with a 6-3 win over Slippery Rock University on Saturday evening.
Charleston took control of the match early on by winning doubles courts 1 and 2 from the pairing of Kristine Gegeshidze/Elise Edwards and Silva Slusarciuc/Jackie Bakos, claiming a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
The Golden Eagles (18-2) swept singles courts 1 thru 4, with Jackie Bakos earning the match clincher at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Slusarciuc and Gegeshidze got the Golden Eagles to 4-2 with straight set wins, giving Bakos the opportunity to close out Rock.
UC returns to the court Sunday afternoon to face the Atlantic Region's top team in Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Golden Eagles and Crimson Hawks square off at noon in Indiana, Pa.
