How it Happened
The Golden Eagles jumped to a nervous start on Saturday afternoon, trailing behind the Tigers by 10 before putting their first basket on the board. Charleston, however, gained momentum and began to close the gap between the two sides, eventually pulling away from Salem, finishing the quarter 18-17.
The Golden Eagles continued to maintain their lead as the second quarter went on, however, the game continued to stay tight between the Golden Eagles and the Tigers. Charleston's Anna Hayton helped UC stay on top, giving them 15 points. The lead changed three times in the second quarter, ending with Salem trailing behind UC 40-35.
The third quarter of play was a similar story for the Golden Eagles, as they continued to keep a steady lead over the visiting Tigers from Salem. UC really started to gain energy, outscoring the Tigers 24-11. Charleston led 64-46 heading into the last quarter of play.
Charleston continued to hold their lead over Salem in the last 10 minutes of the game, scoring 19 points to secure the win. UC had four points off of turnovers in the fourth quarter, and 6 points in the paint.
