Women's Tennis Advances to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th Time in Program History

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Charleston's women's tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region as the NCAA announced the 2018 Division II Women's Tennis Championships on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles will be facing the No. 5 seed, Slippery Rock University, in Indiana, PA at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 28th.

Charleston earned a bid after their 17-6 season and second place finish at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament last fall, and this will be the Golden Eagle's 10th appearance at the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. To begin the tournament, the top two teams from each region will act as hosts. After region play, the winner from each host site will head to Surprise, Arizona to compete in the round of 16, all the way to the finals from May 9-12.

As the No. 4 seed, the Golden Eagles as well as No. 5 seed Slippery Rock will be travelling to No. 1 seed Indiana University of Pennsylvania for Atlantic Region play. The winner from the title match on Sunday, April 29th will advance to Surprise, Arizona. No. 2 seed West Virginia State will host the other half of the region, with No. 3 Mercyhurst, No. 6 West Liberty, and No. 7 Shaw.

In her 20 seasons at UC, head coach Shari Reed has led the University of Charleston to all 10 NCAA appearances.
