CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament round of 32 on Saturday evening after defeating Slippery Rock 5-3.
 
The Golden Eagles couldn't be stopped in doubles play, winning all three spots to lead the Rockies 3-0 heading into singles play. At No. 1 doubles, Katie Swann and Elise Edwards won 8-2, and No. 2 doubles duo Kristine Gegeshidze and Silvana Slusarciuc followed suit, winning 8-2. Bridget Dillon and Alize Uyttenhove added a third win for the Golden Eagles at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 win over SRU.
 
Heading into singles play, Charleston only needed two more wins to complete the match and advance in the tournament.  The Rockies however, did not give up, giving the Golden Eagles a close match, however, UC proved too much for SRU, advancing to five wins before Rock got the opportunity.  Katie Swann at No. 1 singles had an unfinished match, while Kristine Gegeshidze at No. 2 singles won with ease, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Silvana Slusarciuc defeat her opponent 7-6, 6-4 to earn the fifth win for the Golden Eagles on the day, finishing 5-3 over Slippery Rock.
