UC Soars Past Glenville 42-3

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles (5-3, 4-3 MEC) landed a homecoming victory with a 42-3 win over the Glenville State Pioneers (4-4, 3-4 MEC). Charleston was led by the pair of Brant Grisel and Mike Strachanwho connected for four of the Golden Eagles touchdowns

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pioneers struck first on a 48-yard field goal from Justin Watts giving Glenville State the 3-0 lead with 10:00 to play in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter, senior quarterback, Brant Grisel connected with Mike Strachan on a 34-yard pass for the Golden Eagles first score of the contest.
 
The Golden Eagles tacked on their second score of the game three minutes into the second quarter on a pick-6 from Kei Beckham. With an 11-point lead and just over nine minutes to play in the half, the Grisel once again found Strachan who took the ball four yards for the score. Tim McCutchen PAT was good, bringing the score to 21-3.
 
The Golden Eagles continued to charge forward on offense ending the half with a 28-3 lead after Joe Street punched the ball in on a two-yard carry.
 
Both teams struggled to find the end zone in the third quarter with the Pioneers having completed two successful fourth down conversions. Senior linebackerKal-El Williams came up big with back-to-back TFLs for the Golden Eagles defense. The third quarter came to a close with the Golden Eagles up 28-3 over the Pioneers.
 
The Golden Eagles opened the fourth quarter as Grisel found Strachan on a 41-yard pass for the 35-3 lead.
 
The lethal combination of Strachan and Grisel found the endzone a fourth time as Strachan made a one-handed grab on the 25-yard ball giving Charleston a comfortable 42-3 lead over the Pioneers.
 
Charleston hung on as the clock expired to come away with the 42-3 win.
