Golden Eagles Fall to Wesleyan 2-0 in MEC Tournament

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – On a frigid Tuesday afternoon, the University of Charleston Women's Soccer team traveled to take on the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan in the first round of the MEC Tournament. An early first half goal was all the Bobcats needed in order to move on to the face Fairmont State on Friday, downing the Golden Eagles 2-0.

JUST THE BASICS:
Score:  Wesleyan 2, Charleston 0
Location: Cebe Ross Field - Buckhannon, W. Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First half action started quickly as Taylor Maucere was able to score on a ball that bounced off of the hands of UC Goalkeeper Kaylee Hensley on a save. The goal for Maucere, the eventual game-winner, was her second game-winning goal against the Golden Eagles this season, which she also accomplished in the Bobcats 1-0 win over UC on October 27.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Golden Eagles controlled the game for the first 20 minutes of the second half but were unable to execute on four corner kicks within a 10-minute span. Between the teams, there was a combined nine shots, eight on net, with all five of the Bobcats shots finding Hensley who finished the game with three saves.

In the 77th minute of play, Kayla Fay was able to find the back of the net for the Bobcats on an assist from Haelly Ramirez to extend their lead to 2-0.

UP NEXT:
