Golden Eagles Fall in Season Opener

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Basketball team fell to the Vulcans of Cal. Pa. on Friday night. Charleston overcame a 16-point deficit to bring the score within single digits, but their efforts were thwarted by the visiting Vulcans falling 73-78.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vulcans came out with a fast-paced offense, shooting 45 percent from the field, to take a 16-point lead heading into halftime. Cal was led by Shauna Harrison with 18-points in the first half.
 
The Golden Eagles shot 9-25, notching 36.0 percent in the first half. Charleston was led by Freshmen guards, Dakota Reeves and Megan Haines.
 
Coming out of the break, the Golden Eagles continued to fight their uphill battle going shot-for-shot with their opponents, finally bringing the score within single digits by the start of the final period.
 
Led by Reeves from behind the arc, the Golden Eagles brought the score to 76-71 with less than a minute to play. The Vulcans would come away with the five point win to open up the 2019 season.

Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will hit the court at 3:30 p.m. to take on the Mercyhurst University Lakers. Charleston will open their home slate on Wednesday against Ohio Dominican.
