INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Chareston Golden Eagles (18-5, 14-4 MEC) sit in the 8th spot in the Atlantic Region rankings announced by the NCAA DII committee on Wednesday.
These are the rankings which help determine the qualifiers for next month's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. Each league's tournament champion receives an automatic regional bid with the top five remaining teams in the final set of regional rankings filling out the 8-team field. The highest-ranked team serves as host squad for regional.
With a 18-5 record, The Golden Eagles sit in 8th in the first released Atlantic Region Rankings. IUP (19-1) is No. 1 with Virginia Union (21-2), Glenville State (21-2) Cal Pa (19-3), and Bowie State (19-4) rounding out the top 5. Edinboro (16-5) sits in at No. 6 followed by West Liberty (17-7).
Updated regional rankings will be released on Feb. 27 and March 6 with the announcement of the 2019 tournament field set for March 10. The Atlantic Region Tournament will be held March 16-19 with the 2019 NCAA Division II Elite Eight scheduled for March 27-30 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
The Golden Eagles are set to host Fairmont State on Thursday, February 21. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
