Golden Eagles Earn No. 5 Seed in 2019 NCAA Atlantic Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – The Mountain East Conference Championship runner up, Charleston Golden Eagles are one of the remaining 64 teams competing for an NCAA Championship. Charleston earned the No. 5 seed in the Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Charleston, will take on the No. 4 seeded California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles faced the Vulcans in game two of the 2018-2019 season, falling 53-70.

The 25-6 Golden Eagles received their bid, jumping from the seventh seed to the fifth after their performance in the MEC Tournament, going all-the-way to the title game against the No. 18 Glenville Pioneers.

This is the Golden Eagles first Atlantic Regional appearance by the Golden Eagles since 2014, and the first for first-year head coach, Becky Burke at the helm of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the MEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team turned heads with their body of work in the 2018-2019 season posting their best record since the team went 24-8 in 2010-2011, finishing second.

First round matchups and seeds include: No. 1 Glenville State vs. No. 8 West Liberty, No. 4 Cal U vs. No. 5 Charleston, No. 2 Virginia Union vs. No. 7 Edinboro, No. 3 IUP vs. No. 6 Bowie State. 

All four first round games will be played on Friday, March 15, with the semifinals the following evening on March 16. The Atlantic Region Championship will be played on Monday, March 18, with the winner advancing to the Elite Eight in Columbus, Ohio.
