ORLANDO, Fla. - Charleston's run of eight straight wins to start the 2018-19 season came to an end Tuesday evening, dropping a hard fought match to Augustana (S.D.) by a score of 2-5 at the USTA National Campus.
The Vikings took the doubles point by taking two of three courts from the Golden Eagles.  Elise Edwards and Silvana Slusarciuc paired up to win at No. 2 doubles but wouldn't be enough as Augustana took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Five of the six singles courts went to a third-set super tiebreaker in an evenly matched dual between UC and the Vikings.  Augustana took the first singles point with a win at No. 1 but Silvana Slusarciuc and Mathilde Simon tied the match at 2-2 with wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.  The next three three-setters went the Vikings way but Charleston fought hard despite coming up on the short end of Tuesday's match.
The Golden Eagles return to the court on Wednesday against University of Sioux Falls (S.D.).
