GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles' (25-7) historic 2019 season came to an end on Friday night as they fell to the Cal. Pa. Vulcans (25-5) 82-71 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vulcans took an early 10-7 lead over the Golden Eagles with 6:44 to play in the first quarter, followed by buckets on back-to-back possessions to take a 14-7 lead. With Cal's Barrett on the bench with two fouls, Cal went on an 11-2 run to lead UC 19-7 with 3:56 to play. Cal out-scored the Golden Eagles 24-4 in the waning minutes of the first quarter to post a 30-9 lead.
Charleston got back on the board after not scoring for 4:25 with a bucket by sophomore guard, Brooklyn Pannell. Pannell picked off a pass from the Vulcans at the 6:11 mark in the second quarter taking it all the way to the basket to cut the lead to 34-15. The Vulcans went on a 15-8 run to close out the half, before Brooklyn Pannell hit a three cutting the Vulcan lead to 23 points with 34 seconds to go in the half.
Down 25 points at the break the Golden Eagles clawed their way back into the game, with Anna Hayton making three straight buckets putting the Golden Eagles down 19 at the 4:50 mark in the third quarter. Charleston outscored their opponents 20-12 in the third to head into the fourth down just 17 points.
Charleston's offense surged to start the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 13 points with 8:02 to play. The Golden Eagles clawed their way back into the game cutting the Vulcan lead to six points, but three straight scoring possessions by Cal put the back up eight points with a minute to play. UC forced the Vulcans to the line in the final minute, going 4-for4 to take the 10-point lead with 35 seconds to play. Madison Jones put up a layup with 26 seconds to play keeping UC within 10 points, but UC would fall to the number four seeded Vulcans 82-71 in the first round of the Atlantic Region Tournament.
The Golden Eagles shot 57 percent on the night to Cal's 51 percent, but Charleston was outgunned at the rim only bringing down 21 rebounds to Cal's 41, 16 of which were offensive rebounds.
