INDIANA, Pa. -- University of Charleston women's tennis earned a massive Atlantic Region win on Saturday morning, picking up a road victory at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 5-2, at Maple Street Courts on the campus up IUP.
Charleston needed to just win one doubles court against the short-handed Crimson Hawks, but made sure of it by sweeping both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and winning by forfeit at No. 3 to take the doubles point.  With IUP playing with just five players, UC needed to capture only singles courts when they went to head-to-head matches.  Kristine Gegeshidze put the Golden Eagles up 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, putting Charleston one court from clinching.  The Crimson Hawks picked up a point at No. 2 singles but moments later senior Elise Edwards secured the match for Charleston at No. 3 singles, defeating IUP's Dunarova 6-2, 6-3.
UC will square off with their MEC and Kanawha Valley rival, West Virginia State University, on Monday on the Yellow Jacket campus. Â First serve between the Atlantic Region's top-two team is set for 3:30 p.m.
