CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston women's tennis advanced to the second round of the NCAA DII Women's Tennis Atlantic Region Tournament with a 4-0 over Shaw University on Monday afternoon at the Charleston Tennis Club.
 
The Golden Eagles took advantage of a shorthanded Bear squad that traveled four players to Atlantic Region event.  Up a court already in doubles with a win a No. 3, Charleston's Kristine Gegeshidze and Katie Swann served up a 6-0 thrashing at No. 1 to take a 1-0 lead heading to singles.
 
With the incomplete lineup not having a No. 5 or No. 6 singles player available, Charleston took a 3-0 advantage without a singles point being played.  Katie Swann didn't waste time sending the Golden Eagles into the next round, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Shaw's Siria Dibe.
 
Charleston awaits the winner of No. 3 Salem University and No. 6 West Chester being played on Monday afternoon following UC's win over Shaw.  First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts.
