NCAA DII ITA Regional Awards Announced

TEMPE, Ariz. (May 15) – The 2019 ITA NCAA Division II men's and women's regional award winners were announced on Wednesday with a pair of Golden Eagles being recognized along with the coaching duo of Shari Reed and Alec Foote.

Charleston's Kristine Gegeshidze was honored as the ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year following a stellar final campaign in the maroon and gold.  Gegeshidze captured the ITA Atlantic Region singles and doubles titles, helped Charleston earn a share of the MEC regular season title, named the MEC Player of the Year, and guided UC to their first ever NCAA DII Women's Tennis Championship appearance. 

Shari Reed, in her 22nd and final season as UC women's tennis head coach, was recognized as the Wilson/ITA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year following a 24-win season and being named Mountain East Coach of the Year.  Reed has taken the Golden Eagles to new heights this season in her final campaign.  Reed's understudy, Alec Foote, was named ITA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the association.  Foote will step in as Head Coach of the Golden Eagles following Reed's final match in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

On the men's side, UC's Jason Prince was awarded the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award following a fantastic junior season for the Golden Eagles.  This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. 

The ITA sponsors the following awards: Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Player to Watch, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year and ITA Community Service Award.
