HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The top-seeded Golden Eagles blew past the UVa.-Wise Cavaliers in the Mountain East Conference Women's Tennis Championship semifinal, 4-0, at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center to earn a spot in Friday's MEC final.
Charleston started the morning by picking up their MEC regular season awards including MEC Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, two All-MEC First Team and the 2018-19 MEC regular season co-Champion trophies. Â Shortly after the presentation the Golden Eagles went to work capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Â In singles Regina Lopez-Saucedo gave UC their second point to put Charleston up 2-0 with an easy win at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Wise's Alexandra Olson. Â Moments later Mathlide Simon got the Golden Eagles one court away from clinching a spot in Saturday's final with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles over the Cavs' Olivia Dishner.
Securing the 4-0 win for UC was senior, Silvana Slusarciuc, at No. 4 singles over Montana Hill with the Romanian playing in her last Mountain East Conference Women's Tennis Championship.  The semifinal victory sets up a rematch of the last five MEC Women's Tennis Tournament Championships since the league was formed in 2013 by playing West Virginia State University.  Charleston last captured the title in 2016 but enters this final as the favorite, the first for the Golden Eagles.  First serve with the Yellow Jackets is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center.  If poor weather is expected, the match may be moved indoors to the Huntington Tennis Club
