Golden Eagles Fall on Day Two of MEC tournament

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles closed out their MEC tournament campaign after falling to West Virginia State and Concord.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
Brionna Bowman went 4-for-4 from the plate, but Haleigh Christopher tallied two hits in four appearances with one RBI and one run scored, while Bailey Gogia and Kendall Marshall combined for two RBI to lead the Golden Eagles.
 
Carly Lucas took the loss after 3.2 innings pitched before handing the ball off to Carly Turner who finished the last five innings for UC. It was Kasey Murphy who took the win for the Yellow Jackets after closing out the final five innings.
 
Singles from Christopher and Gogia knocked in the first two runs for the Golden Eagles in the top of the first for the early lead. Kendall Marshall extended the advantage for the Golden Eagles allowing Christopher to score in the top of the third.
 
Brittany Allison and Danielle Lebsock came up big for the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the seventh, as Allison hit a two-run homer to left field before Lebsock tripled to centerfield to tie the game up for WVSU.
 
The game was forced into extra innings as the Yellow jackets ended it on a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth that scored the winning run, giving WVSU the 4-3 win.

GAME 2:
The Mountain Lions put five runs on the board before a homerun in the top of the third from Brionna Bowman to bring the score to 5-2.
 
Concord's offense surged in the bottom of the third as they tacked on five more runs to hold a 10-2 lead over UC.
 
The Golden Eagles were unable to get the offense rolling, and a pair of runs in the fourth gave CU the 10-run lead to end the game after five innings.

Carly Lucas took the loss after allowing five runs in two innings.
