BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Kristine Gegeshidze, a tennis standout for the University of Charleston, has been named as the Mountain East Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gegeshidze was selected
among the finalists for the award.
Gegeshidze was a four-time first-team All-Mountain East Conference player and the 2019 MEC Player of the Year for the Golden Eagles. As a senior, she helped lead UC to a share of its first MEC regular season title and helped the Golden Eagles to "Sweet 16" in the NCAA Tournament. She was also the ITA Atlantic region champion in both singles and doubles and finished the year going 24-7 in singles.
In the classroom, Gegeshidze graduated from UC with a 3.85 grade-point average majoring in both business administration and sports business. A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, she was also active on campus serving as a peer tutor, resident advisor and president of the Global Students Organization.
The MEC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
