UC Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener to #15 Ohio Valley 1-0

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The #8 ranked Golden Eagles Men's Soccer team dropped their season opener on Thursday evening at Schoenbaum Stadium to #15 Ohio Valley after the game winner from David Bercedo in the 74th minute allowed the Fighting Scots to pass an early season exam against a pesky Golden Eagle defense.

How it Happened
In a game physical game that resulted in a combined 39 fouls and seven yellow cards, the University of Charleston Men's Soccer team dropped their season opener in a game that consisted of just 13 shots with five on net. Charleston won the battle of limited shots with seven including three on net but a goal in the 74th minute on a loose ball in front of the penalty arc allowed for Ohio Valley to prevail during an early season exam against the UC defense.
 
Headed into halftime tied at 0-0, both teams applied defensive strategy pushed the game scoreless throughout most of the second half. Charleston forward Ettore Ballestracci led the Golden Eagles with a pair of shots (one on goal), while two shots on goal from David Bercedo led the way for the Fighting Scots.
 
UC will be back in action this Sunday as they West Liberty in their first MEC contest of the season. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Schoenbaum Stadium.
