Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Women's Basketball team (14-4, 9-3 MEC) won their Sunday afternoon contest over the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State by a score of 99-68 at the Walker Convocation Center. The Golden Eagles were led by
Anna Hayton who notched 29 points and 14 rebounds while tallying two blocks. Three other Golden Eagles reached double figure scoring including 26 points from
Dakota Reeves, who finished 8-of-16 from beyond the three point arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Yellow Jackets scored the opening bucket of the game, the Golden Eagles exploded on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes of play. With Charleston leading 18-12 with 3:32 remaining in the quarter, Charleston used a 6-0 run to double their lead at a score of 24-12. The teams exchanged buckets over the final minutes of the first quarter as UC carried a 31-18 lead headed into the second.
The second quarter played even between the teams through the first seven minutes before the Golden Eagles increased their lead to 21 on buckets from
Taliyah Hopkins and
MacKenzie Loos. The Yellow Jackets cut into the Charleston lead before halftime as UC led 50-34 at the break.
In the first half, the Golden Eagles converted on 16-of-29, good for 55.2%. In addition, Charleston converted on 6-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets converted on 12-of-27 attempts from the floor in the first half and made five of their 13 attempts from three-point range.
The Golden Eagles maintained their lead through the third quarter and had their best quarter of shooting, making 10-of-14 shots from the floor for 71.4%. Charleston outscored the opposition 28-14 in the quarter led by Hayton, who scored 12 in the quarter.
The fourth quarter played evenly between the teams as the Golden Eagles outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-19 in the quarter. The largest lead of the game came with the Golden Eagles ahead by 38 points (99-61) largely due to the rebounding efforts of the Golden Eagles, who took eight more in the quarter than West Virginia State.
