Golden Eagles Take Home Road Win Over Bobcats

BUCHANNON, W. Va.  – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Women's Basketball team (20-4, 14-3 MEC) defeated the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats (2-21, 1-17 MEC) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 85-51 at the Rockefeller Center. The Golden Eagles were led by the trio of Anna Hayton, Brooklyn Pannell, and Erykah Russell who notched a double-double in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles opened the day with an 11-0 run that ended with a jumper by Brooklyn Pannell at the 7:44 mark of the opening frame. Charleston continued to dominate offensively outscoring the hosts 28-8 led by junior guard, Brooklyn Pannell with 10 points.

Charleston scored the first six points of the second quarter on jumpers from Palacio, Simon, and Hopkins, giving the Golden Eagles a 34-8 advantage just under two minutes into the quarter. The Golden Eagles took their biggest lead of the half of 28 points on a three pointer by freshman guard, Dakota Reeves.  Charleston capped their first half of competition with a pair of free throws from Pannell that sent the Golden Eagles into the locker room with a 25-point advantage over the Bobcats.

For the half, the Golden Eagles scored 28 points off Bobcat turnovers, holding the hosts to 8-of-24 from the field, while shooting 17-29.

The Golden Eagles shot 7-15 in the third, with no buckets from behind the arc. Charleston headed into the final frame with a 60-39 lead.  

Charleston continued to command the game both offensively and defensively, taking their 30-point lead with 5:22 left to play. Charleston kept their foot on the gas pedal for the final five minutes of regulation, taking the 85-51 win.
