ORLANDO, FL – The University of Charleston Women's Tennis team (6-2, 1-0 MEC) were defeated by Division I Seton Hall University (2-8, 0-1 Big East) in their Spring Break opener to on Sunday afternoon at the USTA Campus in Orlando by a score of 4-3.
In the singles, Seton Hall's Plana Ventosa was able to capture the first victory of the day, winning 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets over Golden Eagle
Haarini Balakrishnan. The Golden Eagles struck back and evened the match after
Prinkle Singh defeated Michal Matson in the #2 singles.
In the #4 singles,
Charlotte Ziegler dropped in straight sets to Hiba El Khalifi (6-4, 6-4) while
Mathilde Simon, who dropped her first set to Anniek Jansen, came back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-2 and even the match at 3-3.
The final match of the day came down to the #1 singles to determine who would win their first match of Spring Break. After
Katie Swann defeated Minja Gligic in the first set 7-6 in tiebreaker fashion, Gligic would win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to earn a victory for the Pirates.
