Russell Posts Double-Double in Golden Eagle Victory

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Women's Basketball team took home their seventh victory of the season with an 84-55 win over Frostburg State in Wednesday night action.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Golden Eagles jumped to a quick 6-1 lead in the opening four minutes of the contest, with a three from senior guard, Anastasiia Zakharova. The Charleston offense continued their surge heading into the first media timeout with a 10-1 lead over the visitors. Frostburg finally got on the board again with 2:30 to play on a drive from (3). Charleston closed the first stanza with a 24-8 lead over Frostburg State.  

Charleston opened up the second quarter strong, growing their lead to 16 points. Midway through the second quarter Zakharova converted 1-of-2 from the stripe to put the Golden Eagles up 35-14. But Frostburg's Joseph answered on the next possession with a three to bring the score tow 35-17. Brooklyn Pannell quickly knocked down a triple to extend Charleston's lead to 21-points. Charleston commanded the first half, to head into the intermission with a 46-25 lead over Frostburg State.  

Charleston was led by Anastasiia Zakharova with 13 points as the Golden Eagles shot 43.2 percent from the field. The Golden Eagles held their opponents to just 9-of-33 shooting.  

Midway through the third quarter the Golden Eagles held a comfortable 30-point lead over the Bobcats, led by Brooklyn Pannell, who after back-to-back threes sat with 23 points in the contest. Charleston held their advantage to go into the final frame with a 72-42 lead over Frostburg.  

Charleston maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter to come away with the 85-54 win over Frostburg State.  

Charleston shot 41.1 percent from the field, while the defensive effort held the visitors to 29.3 percent.
