Glenville, W.Va- The Golden Eagle Women's soccer team looked to come back from a loss to nationally ranked Concord when they took on the Pioneers of Glenville State on Sunday afternoon.
The Basics
Location: Sue Morris Stadium
Score: UC 1 GSC 0
Records: Charleston (5-3-0, MEC 4-2-0) Glenville (1-7-0, MEC 0-7-0)
How It Happened
The previous meetings between the two clubs have all gone the way of the Golden Eagles. In September the Golden Eagles hosted the Pioneers and defeated them by a score of 1-0.
Recently, the Golden Eagles have had trouble finding the back of the net. After being shut out by nationally ranked Concord and rival West Virginia State, the Golden Eagles looked to put up better numbers.
The first half played out the way most of the season has for Charleston with a good amount of shots but an inability to finish goal scoring opportunities. UC had ten shots to GSC's two but were not able to score any goals.
Finally, just after the start of the second half
Laura Vierhout found the back of the net for the second time this year. She was assisted by
Kassandra Demps who would account for four shots on goal for the afternoon.
The lead would hold for the rest of the half even after some scrambles late in the game led to yellow cards for UC's
Jessica Seaton and Glenville's Carley Midkiff in the 87
th minute.
Up Next: UC will look to get revenge on Concord after suffering a 2-0 defeat a few weeks ago. The game will be at the Welch Athletic Complex on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m
