Box Score Charleston, W. Va- The Golden Eagles Women's Soccer team defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in the first round of the MEC Tournament on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened
The Tuesday night matchup against local city rival West Virginia State University brought in a packed house for the first round of the Women's Soccer Mountain East Conference Tournament.
 
The Golden Eagles set the tone in the first half, taking the lead in the 21^st minute from a Sydney Cavender header assisted by Madison Hansen.
 
The Yellow Jackets had several chances but could not capitalize as First Team MEC selection Kaylee Hensley tallied three saves to keep the Charleston lead.
 
State came out of the locker room eager to score an equalizer early in the second half but Charleston notched another goal after only six minutes. This goal coming off the foot of Kiera Hill assisted by Laura Vierhout.
 
West Virginia State saw a glimmer of hope when Soares-Cupertino drove towards the goal in the 68^th minute. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, Kaylee Hensley was there to make a remarkable distance closing save for her fourth of the night to keep the Yellow Jackets scoreless.
 
Charleston dominated the remaining twenty minutes of the match holding possession for majority of that time.
 
Kaylee Hensley collected her 11^th clean sheet of the year. This number is first in the conference and ranks her top 6 in all of Division II.
