Women's Volleyball Goes 2-1 on Final Week of Season

Charleston, W.Va - The University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team notched their 20th win on Tuesday night in an evening game against Concord. The Golden Eagles came into the game on a 4- game win streak, winning six of their last eight matches. 
The Basics

How it Happened
 
UC would sweep the visiting Concord University Mountain Lions in straight sets. The night marked a few key events for sophomore setter Maria Hernandez. Hernandez collected her 1,000th career assist in the first set. She also set a new NCAA Division II in-season record with 51 assists on the night.
 
Sophomore middle blocker McKenzie Carpenter led the team with sixteen kills, hitting a spectacular .536 on the night. Sage Bearnson followed closely behind Carpenter with fifteen kills and McKenzie Damon also collected nine kills.
 
The Golden Eagles would go on to win each set by a score of 25-21, 25-19, and 30-28. 
 
 
Charleston, W. Va- The Golden Eagles had their third non-conference game in the last calendar week on Thursday afternoon in the Russell and Martha Wehrle Arena.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles, who are on the heels of a five-game win streak, came out firing on Thursday evening. The non-conference matchup against the Marauders looked to be an even match as both teams came in with 20 wins and 10 losses. 
 
In the first set, the Golden Eagles overpowered Central State, constantly converting attacking chances. They outhit the Marauders .400 - .206 in the first set and had only one service error compared to Central State's three. Charleston took the first set by a score of 25-14. 
 
The second set was a similar story as the Golden Eagles offense could not be stopped. UC surged past a few momentum swings in the second set to take it by a score of 25-19. 
In the third set, the Golden Eagles finished strong by handily defeating the visiting Marauders 25-12. 
 
Ally Fisher ended the night leading the Golden Eagles with a .545 hitting percentage. Sage Bearnson ended the match with 15 kills on 31 attempts for a .419 hitting percentage. 
 
Institute, W.Va - The University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team falls short against West Virginia State University in four sets. 
The Basics 
Location: Walker Center 
Score: UC 1 CU 3
Records: Charleston (21-10, 12-6 MEC) West Virginia State (27-3, 15-1 MEC)
 
UC started out strong, winning the first set 26-24. UC then struggled to keep the same momentum for the remainder of the game as the WVSU offense picked up. The Mountain Lions would go on to win the remaining three sets by a score of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-14. 
 
Charleston's Sage Bearnson and Madison Jackson both racked up 19 digs in the match. 
 
The Golden Eagles finish their regular season 21-10. This historic season marks the first 20+ win season since 2016.

The team looks to continue into the postseason MEC tournament and will face off against Fairmont State University on November 18th at 7:30pm.
