HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first quarter was a closely contested one as both teams traded buckets through the first five minutes. Wesleyan played a physical half-court press that forced UC to keep the ball moving and find the soft spot. Despite being down by two going into the second quarter, Wesleyan shot 7-of-14 (50.0%) from the field, and 2-of-4 (50.0%) from three-point land, to Charleston's 6-of-16 (37.5%) from the floor and 2-of-7 (28.6%) from three-point range.
The Golden Eagles looked more comfortable in the second quarter as they outscored the Bobcats 23-10. Charleston extended their lead to as many as 15 in the quarter while shooting 50% from beyond the arc. Pannell led all scorers with 17 points going into halftime as Charleston led 41-26.
The Golden Eagles continued to increase the margin in the 3rd quarter. Although they were outrebounded in the period, they retained the lead for the entire quarter as well as the remainder of the game. Without scoring a point in the opening half, sophomore
Dakota Reeves added 14 points in the second half to help Charleston maintain a commanding lead.
In the fourth, Charleston continued to control the game on the offensive end, as they outscored Wesleyan 24-11 in the period, finishing with an 87-52 victory for their 12
th straight win to open the season.
