HARROGATE, Tenn. – Freshman, Barbara Balancho, Julia Lif, and Aida Montero along with Redshirt Junior, AlexiAnn Drouin made their debut for the maroon and gold as the University of Charleston women's tennis team fell short in their season opener. Falling to the University of the Cumberlands 5-2 in Saturday afternoon action.
Charleston was able to take the first point of the day as they were victorious in doubles play. Katie Swann and Alexiann Drouin finished first on the day taking the match 6-1. The second match to finish was Prinkle Singh and Haarini Balakrishnan, falling in their matchup 6-2. The final doubles match of the day finished with a 6-2 victory from Barbara Balancho and Julia Lif.
In singles play, Drouin started the Golden Eagles off with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to get Charleston rolling. Despite the early win, Singh, Balakrishnan, and Balancho all fell in tie-breakers to give the Patriots the 5-2 victory over the Golden Eagles.
