CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The University of Charleston Women's Tennis team ranked #1 in the Atlantic Region defeated Slippery Rock University, ranked #3 in the Atlantic Region on Sunday evening with the Eagles coming home with 5-2 victory.
The eagles got off to a quick start in doubles winning all three courts over Slippery Rock University and getting the all-important doubles point. #1 doubles Lif/Singh, #2 doubles Swann/Drouin and #3 doubles Williams/Balakrishnan took control of their matches winning 6-4, 6-1 and 6-1, respectively.
In singles, the team secured the match with wins by #1 Singh (6-4,6-4), #3 Drouin (6-3,6-2), #5 Balakrishnan (6-2,6-2), #6 Lif (6-2,6-0). UC fell just short as #2 Swann lost (4-6,2-6) and then shortly after #4 Balancho lost a hard-fought match (6-4, 5-7, 5-10).
When asked about the match, Coach Foote said "The doubles really set the tone for the match today. We haven't played doubles that high quality this year yet, so it was great to see the ladies go out there and handle business against a tough regional opponent. We still have a lot of things to work on in singles if we want to accomplish our goals for the season, but we are on the right track"
UC move to 7-2 for the season and will play again on Saturday 3rd at home against Salem.
