CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The University of Charleston Women's tennis team defeated the Falcons from Fairmont State on Monday afternoon, winning their eighth game in a row in route to a 7-0 victory over the visitors. After sweeping the doubles point, the Golden Eagles carried momentum into singles and swept the Falcons swiftly.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In doubles, it was Prinkle Singh and Julia Lif who exited the doubles court first, defeating Pastor and Matos 6-0. At #2 doubles, Meggan William and Mikenzie Hindenlang defeated the Falcon pair of Sevilla and Sorton 6-2 in order to claim the doubles point. In the third doubles match, Emelina Alvarez and Raeanne Reed took care of business, defeating Edeburn and Sorout 6-1 in order to finish off the double bouts.
In singles, Singh bounced back to her winning ways, defeating Pastoe 6-1, 6-1 at the #1 singles. Haarini Balakrishnan, reigning MEC Player of the Week, won the first set tiebreak 7-5 in route to her 7-6, 6-2 victory.
At third singles, Barbera Balancho defeated Sevilla 6-1, 6-0 while Lif defeated Sorton 6-3, 6-0 at the #4 singles spot. Meggan William was the only Golden Eagle to not concede a point, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the #5 spot. Finally, Regina Saucedo defeated Nguyen 6-0, 6-2 which capped the scoring for a 7-0 Golden Eagle victory.
