CHARLESTON, W.Va – After knocking off the undefeated Glenville State Pioneers in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Final the Golden Eagles are headed back to Glenville to compete in the NCAA tournament.
- The Golden Eagles are currently 21-8 on the season while boasting a 16-6 conference record.
- Charleston is currently 9-1 in their last 10 games with their sole loss coming to Glenville State back on February 23, 2022.
- Last year in the Atlantic Regional Charleston won two games against Walsh University and Tiffin University before falling to Drury in the Elite Eight.
- The Golden Eagles have played just one game against Kutztown in their history and lost the contest 75-63 in 2016.
- Markyia McCormick was named 2022 All-MEC First Team and All-MEC Tournament Team for her efforts in the tournament. She was also nominated for First Team All-Atlantic Region for 2022. She finished seventh in the MEC in ppg (16.0), and third in FT% (.814) and scored in double figures in 26 out of 29 games this season.
- Dakota Reeves was named 2022 All-MEC Second Team after she led the MEC in 3PT FG% (.439), averaged 11.8 ppg, led the team with 73 3PT FGs and shot 90.7% from the free throw line.
- Trinity Palacio was named 2022 MEC Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 17 ppg. In the championship game Palacio tallied a game high 22 points while shooting a lights out 9-11 from the field (81.8%) and adding one 3PT FG in the game. On the weekend she boasted the highest FG% of the tournament (.700) while also picking up nine rebounds (3 rpg).
- The leader off the glass for the Golden Eagles was Moscow native Anastasiia Zakharova. She totaled 175 rebounds on the season for an average of 6.0 rpg. She also was second on the team in steals with 32, just behind Palacio, who collected 41 on the season.
- Forward Clarrissa Francis missed a few games during the middle of the season but she came back with a vengeance in the MEC tournament, putting up 20 points in the opening round against West Virginia State. She recorded the team's highest FG% for eligible players at 57.8% on the season.
- She was followed closely by Sierra Davis, who played 634 minutes and shot 50.2 from the field, while averaging the second most rebounds on the team (5.5 rpg). Davis also tallied 34 3PT FGs on the year (.466).
- Head coach Tianni Kelly takes her team back to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. She collected her first 20-win season this year with the victory over West Liberty in the MEC Semifinal being her 20th.
